What is this site all about?

This site is devoted to the Men's Ultimate Frisbee Club at Virginia Tech. We are a competetive club that holds regular weekly practices and competes on the weekends against other schools. Feel free to check out the different sections of this site to get a better feeling of what we are all about.

How competetive is the team?

Because we try to play at a high level, there is a certain amount of competetiveness in our practices. This shouldn't deter anyone from playing with us though! We have all been newcomers at one point, so we try our best to teach you everything you need to know while still maintaining the fun aspects of this sport.

How do I get involved?

The best thing you can do to get involved is to show up to all the practices and ultimate related events. You will get to know everyone eventually. This is the best way to become a member of the team. Attending as many tournaments as you can is also a great way to get to know everyone. In the past we have traveled to tournaments as far away as Gainesville, FL and Annapolis, MA. Ultimate is a great way to break out of campus-life and see a lot of the atlantic coast.

What if I can't make it to the tournaments?

We understand that sometimes curricular activites will interfere with participation in weekend tournaments. Most of the tournaments (7-8 in the spring) are geared up to give us a better sense of our own abilites and gauge the talents of other teams. Our main focus is the College Series, which usually starts in the beginning of April. While attendence to most of the early season tournaments is important, the College Series is the most serious and highly anticipated event of the year.

What do I need to bring to practice?

If you plan on coming to practice please bring a light and dark colored shirt, cleats, water, and a frisbee.

What is the UPA?

The UPA stands for the Ultimate Players Association. It is the governing body of this sport. They are in charge of maintaining the rules of the game, keeping track of players, and organizing the championship series for Juniors (high-school), College, Club (open), and Masters (35+).

Where can I read the official rules of Ultimate?

The official rules can be found here.

Does the club do any non-Ultimate events?

The club attempts to provide a friendly atmosphere where we can bond as a team. This is usually in the form of parties or going out to eat at Owen's Dining Hall after a hard practice. This gives us a chance to relax and get to know each other.

Is there a women's team here at Virginia Tech?

No, there was a women's team in past years, but interest faded. Check the 'Women's Ultimate' Link on the side for more information. Their website can be found here.
